With this piece, I wanted to paint the feeling of a city that is both rising and dissolving. I chose these electric, almost 'artificial' tones—the neon pinks and burning oranges—to represent the intense energy of our modern world, even as it sits against the heavy, dark weight of the sky.

The texture in the foreground is very important to me; it represents the rugged, solid earth we stand on, which I’ve contrasted with the fragile, almost ghost-like silhouettes of the buildings in the distance. For me, this work is about the vibration of the horizon. It’s that moment where the industrial meets the elemental, and the colors are so loud they almost seem to make a sound. I hope the viewer feels that pulse—the sense that the world is thick with color and that even in the shadows of the city, there is a fierce, radiant light fighting to be seen
