Double Duality

In this work, I wanted to explore the idea of a face as a landscape of light and shadow. By using beads and fishing line, I’ve created a portrait that isn't trapped behind glass or fixed to a flat canvas. It exists in the air, swaying slightly with the rhythm of the room, suggesting that identity itself is fluid and always in motion.

I chose the contrasting blues, deep browns, and warm ochres to represent the different layers of a personality—the parts we show to the light and the parts we keep in the shade. Every bead is a choice, a small fragment of a larger story. When you look at it from a distance, you see a woman’s face, but as you move closer, she dissolves into a shimmering sea of glass. For me, this reflects how we understand people: the closer we get, the more we realize how many tiny, intricate pieces it takes to make a person whole
