In Girl Peulh, I wanted to freeze a moment of quiet grace. The Peulh people have a beauty that is both delicate and incredibly resilient, and I wanted the canvas to reflect that balance.

I chose a narrow, vertical format to draw the viewer’s eye directly to her expression—the gentle tilt of her head and the soft light that seems to radiate from within. By using mixed media, I’ve tried to give the background a grainy, sun-drenched texture that feels like the very dust of the Sahel. The vibrant patterns of her necklace and the rhythmic stripes of her dress are not just details; they are symbols of a rich heritage that she carries with effortless dignity. For me, this painting is a meditation on the serene strength of youth and the timeless beauty found in the everyday moments of life along the Niger
