Nomad

In Nomad, I wanted to capture the quiet strength and tenderness of a mother from the Sahel. There is a profound beauty in the way her gaze holds both a soft love for her child and a resilient awareness of the vast, harsh landscape they inhabit.

I chose this narrow, vertical format to concentrate the focus entirely on the bond between the two figures. I worked with mixed media to give the canvas a tactile, earthy quality—as if it were part of the very dust of the road they travel. The warm, ochre tones represent the sun-drenched atmosphere of Mali, while the touches of blue and patterned detail in their clothing speak to the rich cultural identity they carry with them. For me, this painting is about the universality of a mother's embrace; it is a moment of stillness and peace found in a life defined by movement. It is a tribute to the enduring spirit of the nomadic soul
