The artist Antonella Leoni is an Italian-born artist and distinguished expert in Art History and Islamic Art, currently residing in Cairo.
She holds a Diploma in Asian Arts from the British Museum / University of London and the prestigious Diploma in the Art of Arabic Calligraphy and Ornaments at the Academy Khalil Agha in Cairo in 2019.

In creating this piece, I wanted to explore the moment of creation itself. I chose the word كن (Kun)—'Be'—because it represents the divine command that brings existence out of nothingness.
The background is a marbled landscape of grey and gold, representing the primordial state of flow and potential. I used the papyrus because its ancient, fibrous texture reminds me that the word has always existed, even before we had paper to write it on. The gold leaf that veins through the black ink isn't just decoration; it is the light of existence breaking through. For me, this work is about that single, powerful instant where a thought becomes a reality. I hope that when you look at it, you feel the same energy and potential that I felt while drawing the very first line
