Dr. Salha Al-Masry is an Egyptian art critic and visual artist who belongs to a generation committed to connecting visual practice with profound critical analysis. She graduated from the Faculty of Art Education at Helwan University in 2004, obtained her master’s degree in Art Education (Art Criticism and Aesthetics) in 2011, and continued her academic path by earning a PhD in Art Education in the same specialization in 2020.
Alongside her artistic practice, El-Masry serves as the Director of Al-Bab–Selim Gallery at the Museum of Modern Art, under the Fine Arts Sector of the Ministry of Culture, where she integrates institutional experience with critical and creative practice. Since 2007, she has contributed to documenting and analyzing the developments of the Egyptian art movement through various cultural and artistic platforms, including Al-Thaqafa Al-Jadida, Al-Khayal, Adab wa Naqd, Al-Bayt, and Fnoon Masriya.
El-Masry has participated in numerous international art events and group exhibitions, and has held several solo exhibitions at the local level. She received the Art Criticism and Aesthetics Award at the Youth Salon in 2009 and 2011. In 2025, she published her book “The Hermeneutic Interpretation of Egyptian Surrealism” with the General Egyptian Book Organization. Her artworks are part of private collections inside and outside Egypt, affirming her presence as one of the influential contemporary voices in the Egyptian visual arts scene
